This Answer Record discusses requirements for situations where RXP and RXN pins of the Spartan-6 FPGA GTP Transceiver are connected to ground.
In addition to the recommendations in the GTP Transceivers User's Guide (UG368), the RXP and RXN pins can be connected to ground on the board in the following situations:
If one of the two transceivers in the GTP Dual is used, the unused dual can have RXP and RXN connected to ground, but the termination attributes must be set to RCV_TERM_GROUND_x = "TRUE" and RCV_TERM_VTTRX_x = "FALSE" to avoid damaging the device.
The GTPA1_DUAL is not instantiated or used in the design.No additional actions are required if the GTP is not instantiated.
