13.1 PlanAhead - ERROR:Deleting constraints from edif file is not allowed

Description

When I select the ports in an EDIF design and choose to Reset Port Properties, I see the following error:

ERROR:Deleting constraints from edif file is not allowed

There are no user constraints set in the EDIF Netlist.

What is the reason for this error message?

Solution

If there are no constraints entered in the Constraints file for a port, the PlanAhead tool assumes that the user would like to reset the Port Properties from the design.

PlanAhead can only reset properties entered in the User Constraints File(s).

Therefore, it issues an error stating that the action is not allowed.

This check has been improved in PlanAhead 13.2.

13.1:

In 13.1 the following command would reset the DRIVE property to default:

set_property DRIVE {0} [get_ports *]

In 13.1 the following command would sometimes reset DRIVE to default, and would sometimes issue the following message:

ERROR:Deleting constraints from edif file is not allowed:

set_property DRIVE {} [get_ports *]

13.2:

In 13.2 the following command will now reset the DRIVE property to default (we have not seen it incorrectly issue the previous error):

set_property DRIVE {} [get_ports *]

In 13.2 the following command will now issue an error:

set_property DRIVE {0} [get_ports *]

ERROR: [Common-69] Command failed: Illegal DRIVE_STRENGTH value '0' for standard '<IOSTD>'
