AR# 41128 Design Advisory for 13.1 PlanAhead - Import ISE Project sets the -r (Ignore Location Constraints) option for NGDBuild

A Project Navigator project (.xsie) file can be imported into the PlanAhead tool in one of two ways:
  • Select File -> Open Project, then change the "Files of Type" option to ISE Project File (.xise).
  • Select File -> New Project and then on the third page of the New Project Wizard, select "Import ISE Project.

After selecting the desired ".xise" project file, the PlanAhead tool runs the Import ISE Project process, which imports all of the ISE Project settings and source data into the PlanAhead project format.

Warning: The Import ISE Project process is incorrectly setting the -r option for NGDBuild. Therefore, in the PlanAhead tool the "Ignore LOC Constraints" option is set even though the "Use LOC Constraints" option is specified in the ISE project (.xise) file. If a user imports a working ISE project and then implements the design, the resulting pin locations are different than required for the board design.

If the user then downloads the design to a board without verifying the pin locations, contention and possible damage will occur on the board.

The pin locations should always be verified for a new PlanAhead design (even if imported from an ISE project) before the design is downloaded to a board.

To correct the problem, the "Ignore LOC Constraints" option should be set to false (or unselected) after the ISE project has been imported.

This issue has been resolved in the ISE Design Suite 13.1 Update release, see (Xilinx Answer 41733).
