Virtex-5/6, Spartan-6 - What is the state of HSWAPEN if the pin is floating?

Description

What happens when HSWAPEN is left floating? What state will it be in? What state will the I/Os be in during configuration?

Solution

As documented in the Configuration User Guide for the specific family, there is an internal pull-up resistor at the HSWAPEN pin. If the pin is floating, HSWAPEN should be in a Highstate.

However, the weak pull-up does not always provide a reliable '1' on HSWAPEN; accordingly, GPIOs will be either High-Z or weakly pulled up. Therefore, HSWAPEN must be connected to either disable or enable the pull-up resistors.
