AR# 43967 13.4 EDK - KC705 Base System Builder (BSB) Known Issues

What are the limitations and special considerations for Base System Builder (BSB) support of the KC705 development board in EDK 13.3/13.4?

EDK 13.4

All Designs:

(Xilinx Answer 43347) - Kintex-7 Initial Engineering Sample (ES) Master Answer Record and Known Issues(XC7K325T CES9937)
(Xilinx Answer 43060) - Any user creating a bitstream for the Kintex-7 325T withinitial ES(XC7K325T CES9937) must install this BitGen patch

DDR3 SDRAM - axi_7series_ddrx

Keep in mind the following considerations when usingthe KC705 DDR3 device in EDK:

  • The KC705 rev B board has been removed from Base System Builder (BSB).
  • Later silicon revisions after Initial ESshould disable theXC7K325T_REV_1X parameter.

EDK 13.3

All Designs:

(Xilinx Answer 43347) - Kintex-7 Initial Engineering Sample (ES) Master Answer Record and Known Issues

  • The KC705 rev B board is limited to a 400 MHz memory clock (800 Mb/s data rate). The KC705 Rev C is designed to support a 800 MHz memory clock (1600 Mb/s data rate).
  • For Base System Builder support of KC705 Rev C, extract the following".zip" archive to the EDK installation directory, for example,C:\Xilinx\13.3\ISE_DS\EDK): http://www.xilinx.com/txpatches/pub/applications/misc/ar43967.zip
  • An updated axi_7series_ddrx pcore patch isrequired for all 13.3 EDK DDR3 designs. There are also special considerations for XMD, as Initial ES DDR3 calibration takes a few minutes.
