When I run System Generator, I see the TclServer.exe process and my MATLAB seems to slow down for a while. Why?

Solution

The TclServer.exe talks to the CORE Generator to exchange information about high level IPs. When a high-level IP is instantiated, the TCL server runs in the background to generate the IP. For System Generator for DSP Release Notes from other versions, see (Xilinx Answer 29595).
