AR# 44265 AutoESL - Simulation lasting extended hours

AutoESL simulation takes hours and does not seem to complete operation. CPU and memory usage indicate the process is running.

For video applications, reading in each frame and writing out each frame could be time consuming. Be mindful that the RTL simulation of a video design could be verifying an entire image at the RT level and can consume considerable time. It is recommended to start with a small image and gradually increase the image size (20x20, 40x40, 200x200) for simulation purposes. For larger images, hardware verification might be desired.

For non-video applications, first check to see if the message SIM-76 has been issued. If the C function reads or writes more than once to any pointer argument, a depth must be specified in the simulation dialog (or using autosim -depth) in order for the test bench to operate correctly. If there is no SIM-76 message, check the PROJECT\solution\sim\systemc\ folder (where the names for PROJECT, SOLUTION and HDL depend names given and choice of RTL language), if test.autohdltvin.dat and test.autohdstvout.dat files are unexpectedly large while the testbench does not include any large data file, this is known issue.
