13.3, Kintex-7 GTX IBERT - QPLL Locked status is not being updated periodically which might result in false reading

Description

When I generate a Kintex-7 FPGA GTX IBERT core in 13.3, the QPLL Locked status is not being updated periodically which might result in a false reading.

Solution

This is a known issue in 13.3 which could result in seeing behavior where the IBERT GUI shows the GTX as LINKED, but the QPLL shows as NOT LOCKED. The QPLL could actually be locked, but the tool does not know this since the QPLL Locked status is not being read periodically.

To work around this issue:

  1. Click on the "Ports" tab of the IBERT GUI in the ChipScope Analyzer.
  2. Click on the "Common" radio button.
  3. Change any port setting to the exact same setting. For example, ifQPLLREFCLKSEL is set to 0x2, enter in a value of 0x2 and press Enter.

This triggers a read from the COMMON block inside the IBERT core which reads the correct QPLL LOCKED value.

This is a known issue in 13.3 and is scheduled to be fixed in 13.4.
