Design Advisory for Production Kintex-7 325T, 410T, 420T and Virtex-7 485XT, 690XT, 1140XT - Bitstream compatibility requirements between GES and Production devices

Description

This design advisory answer record contains information on bitstream compatibility between General ES (GES) and Production for 7 series devices XC7K325T, XC7K410T, XC7K420T, XC7VX485T, XC7VX690T, and XC7VX1140T.

Solution

Production Requirements

Bitstreams targeting 7K325T, 7K410T, 7K420T and 7VX485T production devices must be generated in ISE 14.2, Vivado 2012.4, or later versions of the design tools.

  • Bitstreams generated in ISE 14.1 or older versions of the tools are not supported on production devices.
  • The Vivado Design Suite 2012.3 and older versions were under-reporting delays on some of the longer paths of a device for 7 series designs (Xilinx Answer 54246).

Bitstreams targeting 7VX690T production devices must be generated in ISE 14.5, Vivado 2013.1, or later versions of the design tools.

  • Bitstreams generated in ISE 14.4, Vivado 2012.4 or older versions of the tools are not supported on 7VX690T production devices.

*Please note that not all listed devices are in production yet; see the Kintex-7 and Virtex-7 FPGA data sheets for information on which device/speed combinations are at production status.

Bitstream Compatibility Between GES and Production Devices

7K325T, 7K410T, 7K420T and 7VX485T

To create a single bitstream in ISE 14.2/Vivado 2012.2 or later versions of the Design Suite or later versions that support both Production and GES 7K325T, 7K410T, 7K420T or 7VX485T devices, the following conditions apply:

  • Production devices have a speedfile performance increase that does not apply to GES devices. A Tactical Speed File Patch is available in that allows for timing analysis and bitstream generation using the GES speedfile.
  • GTX attributes described in (Xilinx Answer 50617) have been changed in the 14.2 ISE/Vivado 2012.2 and later versions of the Design Suite GT Wizard. These changes are backward compatible with GES devices. Designs using GTX must be re-run using the 14.2 ISE/Vivado 2012.2 or later versions of the Design Suite GT Wizard for GES and Production compatibility.
  • PCIe Wizard must also be re-run in ISE 14.2/Vivado 2012.2 or later versions of the Design Suite. For the latest GT attributes, please use the latest software release.
  • MIG must be updated to ISE 14.3/Vivado 2012.3 or later versions of the Design Suite. These changes are backward compatible with GES devices; see (Xilinx Answer 53420) and (Xilinx Answer 55531).

7VX690T and VX1140T

There is no bitstream compatibility between GES and Production 7VX690T and 7VX1140T devices.
