Install – How do you add shortcuts to the Start Menu?

During the installation process I deselected "Create Start Menu and Desktop Icons".

The installation has now completed.

Is it possible to now add these shortcuts to the Start menu?

To add shortcuts to the Start menu, run the shortcutSetup.bat batch file.

  • For Vivado 2014.1 and later, this file is found under the .xinstall\Vivado_<version>\bin directory.
    (For example C:\Xilinx\.xinstall\Vivado_2014.3\bin\NetworkShortcutSetup.bat).
  • For Vivado 2013.4 and earlier this file is found under the Vivado\<version>\bin directory.
    (For example C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.2\bin\shortcutSetup.bat).

On a windows machine, if the install was done by or as an administrator and then the user logs on with just the user account, the shortcuts might not be available from the desktop or Start Menu if the "Current User" option was selected instead of "All Users" in the install.

To fix this, you can

  • Re-run the shortcut setup script as outlined above and choose "All Users"
  • Copy the Xilinx Design Tools folder
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
