LogiCORE IP Video Scaler v7.01.a - Why do I see what appears to be random glitches or flickering for several frames each second in video output from the Video Scaler?

Description

Why do I see what appears to be random glitches or flickering for several frames each second in video output from the Video Scaler?

Solution

This is a known issue discovered in v7.01.a of the Video Scaler. The problem is that the last line of a frame is repeated for every line of the next frame. This will happen randomly, causing flickering to occur in the output video.

This issue is fixed in the:

  • Video Scaler v7.01.a Rev3 or later pcore patch which can be obtained from (Xilinx Answer 55898).
  • Video Scaler v8.1 (Rev. 1) or later available in Vivado Design Suite 2013.3 or later
