ISE 14.7 iMPACT/Promgen - Targeting a Virtex-7 HT device results in "ERROR:Bitstream:63 - Trying to read past end of bitstream. The bitstream may be corrupted."


If you generated a Virtex-7 HT bit file using Vivado Design Suite 2013.4, or a patched Vivado 2013.3 build, you will receive this Promgen error when attempting to generate an MCS file. 

This is because changes to the GTZ firmware resulted in a change to the amount of words in the bit file.

The bit file reader is not able to process the newer bit file.


If using 14.7 iMPACT/Promgen to generate PROM files, you must apply the attached patch.

Please extract the ZIP file contents to your <install>/14.7/ISE_DS/ISE directory.

Beginning in Vivado 2014.1, you can use write_cfgmem (The Vivado Promgen Equivalent) to generate the PROM files without issues, or continue to use the patched 14.7 iMPACT/Promgen.

Note: This ONLY affects Virtex-7 HT devices and applies to both the 580T and 870T HT devices.
