2014.3 - Unified Simulation is not supported using 32-bit ModelSim PE/DE in Windows

When trying to simulate an example design in Windows using ModelSim DE/PE 32-bit, I am receiving the below error:

# do {board_elaborate.do}

# ** Error: invalid command name "vopt"

# Executing ONERROR command at macro ./board_elaborate.do line 12

Unified simulation does not work in Vivado 2014.3 due to the use of the vopt command, which is not a supported command in the DE/PE versions of ModelSim.

In order to simulate in Windows using ModelSim 32-bit PE/DE you will need to disable unified simulation.

To disable unified simulation set the following parameter:

set_param project.enableUnifiedSimulation 0
If you do not want to manually set the parameter every time Vivado is launched, you can create an init.tcl script which includes the above command, and put it in the $XILINX_VIVADO/scripts directory.
(where $XILINX_VIVADO is the Vivado install directory).

ModelSim and Questa SE versions will work correctly with Unified simulation.

This issue will be fixed in a future Vivado release.
