2014.3 IP Packager - Packaging source directory as a library core, I get: ERROR: [Common 17-53] User Exception: Invalid Component object reference "component.xml"

When I package the source directory as a library core with the following steps, I receive a User Exception Error.

Steps to package IP:
  • Click "manage IP -> New IP Location..." in the Vivado start page
  • Tools > Create and Package IP
  • Choose radio button "Package a specified directory"
  • Select IP Location "C:/test/source"
  • Check box "Package as library core"
  • Enter project name and target directory

Error message received:

ERROR: [Common 17-53] User Exception: Invalid Component object reference "c:/test/source/component.xml".  Ensure this is the file name of a loaded file object, or valid VLNV, or a valid TCL ID.

This issue only occurs in Windows 7 and has been fixed in the 2014.4 release of Vivado.

In 2014.3 Vivado, run the below Tcl script to avoid the error message.

Example command:

vivado -mode tcl -source package_run.tcl

Tcl script:

create_project managed_ip_project ./managed_ip_project -part xc7vx485tffg1157-1 -ip
set_property target_simulator XSim [current_project]
ipx::infer_core -as_library true ./source
ipx::edit_ip_in_project -upgrade true -name edit_ip_project -directory ./ ./source/component.xml
ipx::current_core ./source/component.xml
update_compile_order -fileset sources_1
update_compile_order -fileset sim_1
