Licensing - Starting lmgrd on RedHat7 or CentOS7 gives: (lmgrd) "servername.domain.company.com": Not a valid server hostname, exiting

I am trying to start lmgrd to serve a license on RedHat7 but I am receiving errors similar to the following:

4:07:37 (lmgrd)
4:07:37 (lmgrd) Server's System Date and Time: Fri Jan 16 2015 04:07:37 MST
4:07:37 (lmgrd) SLOG: Summary LOG statistics is enabled.
[usr1@my_server floating_lics]$ 4:07:37 (lmgrd) "my_server.xlnx.xilinx.com": Not a valid server hostname, exiting.
4:07:37 (lmgrd) Valid license server system hosts are: "my_server"
4:07:37 (lmgrd) Using license file "/licenses/xilinx.lic"

The problem is that the file /etc/hostname includes the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

This file seems to be new in RHEL7/CentOS7.

When a regular installation of the OS occurs, the FQDN is not entered in the file and things work normally.

However, as part of the cloning process from a VM Template to a VM, the FQDN can be added to this file.

To fix the issue, change the name in the file from the FQDN to the server name (without the domain information).
