When I try to upgrade/add to my install using the "Add Design Tools or Devices" with my original DVD/download file, I get a failure and/or it goes to the web to try to update the install.
For DVD users:
The archives available on the web are no longer compatible with installations from the DVD. Because of this, regardless of whether or not an internet connection is available, you will not be able to complete the upgrade and will have to reinstall.
You can upgrade by re-inserting the DVD into the computer, but this will be very slow (the installer is going to calculate the checksum for every archive).
The recommended solution is to do a complete uninstall/reinstall with all of the required tools and devices selected.
For Single File Download (SFD) users:
When adding design tools/devices after an SFD install, the user is not given an option to install from the SFD and a web install is the only option.
SFD users with an internet connection can pursue an upgrade by entering their username and password, and the upgrade will complete as expected.
SFD users with no internet connection cannot go through the upgrade process and will have to reinstall the tools manually.
For users with a proxy, a pop-up window will appear in the update installer where the user can specify the proxy info when an internet connection cannot be established.
