Platform Cable USB

The Platform Cable USB can configure devices with 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, and 1.5V I/O. To select a voltage standard to use with the Platform Cable USB, connect the VREF pin of the Platform Cable USB to the desired reference level from the target board. The cable derives its power from the PC via the USB port. The VREF pin is used only as a reference voltage for the target board interface and is not used as a power supply.

Parallel Cable IV

The Parallel Cable IV can configure devices with 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, and 1.5V I/O. To select a voltage standard to use with the Parallel Cable IV, connect the VREF pin of the Parallel Cable IV to the desired reference level from the target board. The cable derives its power either from the PC (via a supplied adapter) or from an external source. The VREF pin is used only as a reference voltage for the target board interface and is not used as a power supply.

Parallel Cable III

The Parallel Cable III could configure devices with 5V, 3.3V, and 2.5V I/O. To select a voltage standard to use with the Parallel Cable III Cable, you would connect the VCC Pin of the Parallel Cable III to the desired level. Typically, the VCC was supplied from the target board. If an external power supply was used, the user had to ensure that the external power supply and the board were connected to a common ground pin. The cable was powered entirely from VCC.

NOTE: The Parallel Cable III could be powered from 2.5V to 5V; however, it could only interface with 3.3V and 5V logic levels reliably. The 74HC125 buffers in the Parallel Cable III were designed to be powered with a wide VCC range, but were not designed to perform logic level translation. Do not use the Parallel Cable III to configure a part that interfaces at 2.5V levels. If this is required, you must provide your own level-shifter.

OBSOLETE: MultiPRO Desktop Tool

When used as a desktop programmer, the MultiPRO Desktop Tool requires only an external power supply because the power to the adapter boards is supplied by the MultiPRO pod itself. However, when the Serial/JTAG or SelectMAP ribbon cable extensions are used, the reference voltage is determined by connecting the VREF pin on the cable extension to the desired reference level from the target board. The MultiPRO Desktop Tool derives its power from an external power converter (supplied with the MultiPRO). The VREF pin is used only as a reference voltage for the target board interface and is not used as a power supply. The MultiPRO can configure devices with 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, and 1.5V I/O.

OBSOLETE: XChecker Cable

The XChecker Cable could configure devices with either 5V or 3.3V I/O. By default, the XChecker interfaced at 5V. When the XChecker was used to interface with a device with 3.3V I/O, a 3.3V adapter was required.

OBSOLETE: MultiLINX

The MultiLINX Cable could configure devices with 5V, 3.3V, and 2.5V I/O. The power connection on the flying leads was used to supply power to the cable and to provide the reference voltage level for the configuration interface.
