How are CoolRunner markings read?

Solution

The CoolRunner family was originally acquired from Philips. The XPLA1 and XPLA2 families originated there, and this Answer Record will illustrate how the part markings were converted as they moved from Philips to Xilinx.

NOTE: The CoolRunner XPLA3 family was released at Xilinx, and has only Xilinx part markings.

All new CoolRunner parts have been converted to the Xilinx "XCR" markings and will follow the Xilinx standard marking code. See (Xilinx Answer 1067) for Xilinx marking code information.

Examples of the Philips marking system are shown below:

1. For a 100 lead package:

line 1 - PZ3128ASx (x = speed)

line 2 - sprint lot ID (6 digits - this identifies either the fab lot or assembly lot, which can be traced back to a fab lot), then 2 digits of assembly seq ID (could be --)

line 3 - diffusion center/assembly center/center of responsibility/year/week/mask version/release status code (blank if production) (all 1 digit, except week, which is 2 digits)

2. For the 128 lead package:

line 1 - PZ3128ASxBE (x = speed)

line 2 - sprint lot ID (8 digits - this identifies either the fab lot or assembly lot, which can be traced back to a fab lot), then 2 digits of assembly seq ID (could be --)

line 3 - diffusion center/assembly center/center of responsibility/year/week/blank space/mask version/blank space/release status code (blank if production) (all 1 digit, except year and week, which are 2 digits)
