**Obsolete** ChipScope - Errors: "Configuration file has wrong bit count"/"Empty configuration file"

Keywords: ChipScope, configuration, bit, count, empty

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
During the configuration step of the ChipScope ILA tool, the following error messages occur and the configuration fails:

In Slave Serial configuration mode:
"The configuration file has wrong bit count."

In JTAG configuration mode:
"Empty configuration file"
"Internal error: failed to execute API function"

The cable connection does not have any problems; only the configuration fails.

If you are using an international version of the operating system, please make sure that no non-standard characters exist in the file path or the file name. The ChipScope ILA software cannot locate the file if non-standard characters are present in the file path or file name.

This problem was observed with a Japanese OS where the files were placed on the Desktop, and "Desktop" was written in Japanese characters. (The same problem for files stored under "My Documents").

If this solution does not solve your problem, please see (Xilinx Answer 9342): ChipScope - "Internal Error: Failed to execute API function"
