Saving your Design as a Hard Macro File

You can create a Hard Macro Library File  by saving your design as a Hard Macro. To use this macro, you must assign one or more external pins as well as remove any VCC or GND nets and replace them with nets driven by a constant LUT.

Note  Constraints are not retained when you save your design file as a macro library file. A constraints file is not generated, even if you design had constraints defined.

To Save Your Design as a Hard Macro Library File

  1. Select File > Save As.

The Save As dialog box appears.

  1. Select the Macro option.

  2. Enter the macro name in the Macro File field. Macro files have a .nmc extension. If you do not add this extension, it is automatically appended to your file name. If you do not enter a full path name, the file is put in the current working directory (the directory from which you started the FPGA Editor).

  3. Click OK.

The dialog box closes and the macro library file is saved with the name you specified. The file name in the Title Bar at the top of the FPGA Editor window changes to indicate that this new file is currently displayed in the window. When you later save or exit the file, it is saved to the new file name.

Note  You must add external pins to the macro in order to instantiate it in another design.

  1. To close the current design, select File > Close.
