You can set properties for each process
that allow you to control the way your design is implemented. Properties
generally correspond to command line options and are passed to the
underlying command line tools. Properties differ based on the device
family you are targeting, your top-level module type, and your synthesis
tool.
You can set standard or advanced properties. By default,
only the standard properties display in the Process Properties dialog
box. When you enable the advanced properties, both standard and advanced
properties appear. Setting advanced options is not recommended if you are just getting started with using the ISE® software.
Note Design Goals and Strategies provide another way to set process
properties. When you use Design Goals and Strategies, multiple properties
are set and “locked” to particular values in an effort to more effectively
achieve a particular design goal. For more information, including
how to lock and unlock properties, see
Using Design Goals and Strategies.
To Set Process Properties
- In the Design panel, select a Design View from the drop-down list.

- In the Hierarchy pane, select the source file to process.
Note The source file you select affects the processes that appear
in the Processes pane; only the processes that apply to the selected
source are shown.
- In the Processes pane, select the process for which you
want to set properties.
- Select Process > Process Properties.
Note You can also right-click the process and select
Process
Properties, or click the Edit Process Properties toolbar
button

. If
there are no properties for a process, the Process Properties menu
command is grayed out.
- In the Process Properties dialog box, change the property
options. Optionally, you can use the following options to get more
information about each property:
- Help - provides
detailed information on each property.
- Display Switch Names - shows the corresponding command line option for each property.
- Advanced - shows advanced properties.
- Click OK.
The new property settings are used the next time you run
the selected process.
Note Some properties are dependent
on other properties. The values of dependent properties may change
based on other property values that you set.
