Using SmartGuide Technology
SmartGuide™ technology allows you to use results from a previous implementation to guide the next implementation. This helps to reduce runtime, preserve logic, and meet timing. When you use SmartGuide technology, the Map and Place and Route processes use the specified NCD file to guide the new and changed components and nets. SmartGuide technology may move guided components and nets in order to meet timing.
Use SmartGuide technology at the end of the design cycle, when your timing requirements have been met and you are making small design changes. A small design change typically is contained within a module. Other design changes that work well are changes to pin locations, attributes on instantiated components, relaxing timing constraints, adding a ChipScope™ Pro core, or other similar changes.
Note SmartGuide technology replaces the guide modes "exact" and "leverage". The guide mode and guide file properties are no longer available in Project Navigator.
To Use SmartGuide Technology
  1.  In the Hierarchy pane of the Design panel, select the top module Image.
  2.  Select the Source > SmartGuide menu command.
  3.  In the SmartGuide dialog box, select Use SmartGuide, specify an NCD file, and click OK.
SmartGuide technology is enabled, and your top module icon changes to this icon Image.
Note You can specify your own NCD file. However, by default, the previously routed NCD file is used.
  4.  Implement your design. Image
The specified NCD file is used to guide the implementation run.
