Xilinx Product Registration and Download Help
With the ISE Design Suite 10.1 release, all products you have purchased or wish to evaluate can be registered, downloaded and installed at one time from the Xilinx Product Registration and Download Site. The following help topics provide answers to the most commonly asked questions about product registration and download.
User Types and Actions
There are three user types for the Xilinx Registration and Download Site; customer account administrator, end user, and evaluation user. Every account must have at least one customer account administrator, even if that account contains only one person.
- Customer Account Administrator
An example of a typical customer account administrator is a CAD tools administrator. At least one customer account administrator is required for each account, but an account can have more than one customer account administrator.
A customer account administrator is the “Ship To” contact specified during the product ordering process. That person will receive an email with instructions on how to register and download the products that were purchased. It is important that the customer account administrator follow the link in the email to ensure access to purchased products.
Customer account administrators can manage multiple accounts, can assign account administration privileges to one or more end users of the account, and can act as an end user.
- End User
An example of an end user is an engineer or design team member. An end user is added to the account by the customer account administrator and is entitled to a single seat of one or more of the ISE Design Suite products. End users can generate a Registration ID, download products electronically, and request an ISE Design Suite 10.1 DVD.
- Evaluation User
An evaluation user is someone who would like to evaluate one or more of the products in the ISE Design Suite 10.1. Evaluation users can generate a Registration ID, download evaluation versions of products, and request an ISE Design Suite 10.1 DVD, at
http://www.xilinx.com/register
A customer who is already licensed for ISE Design Suite products may also evaluate other products in the ISE Design Suite 10.1.
Registering ISE Design Suite Products and Obtaining Your Registration ID
With the ISE Design Suite 10.1 release, product registration is no longer done on each individual product as it was with 9.2i and earlier releases. All products for an end user are registered at one time. A single Registration ID is issued which is required for product installation. You can still register 9.2i and earlier versions of the ISE Design Tools (see below) but you will be issued one registration ID for each products registered.

The following steps will allow you to register products in the ISE Design Suite 10.1:

Pull down the “Account” drop-down list and select your desired account. This selection will not be available if you are only entitled to evaluation or free products.

Pull down the “Release No.” drop-down list and select 10.1. This selection will only be available if you are entitled to purchased products, since evaluation products are only available for the latest release.

Select the products you want to register. If you are not entitled to any purchased or licensed Xilinx products then you will not see the Entitled Products section.

Click the Next button. A Registration ID is generated and an email confirmation will be sent to you. You are taken to the next page in the registration and download process, which displays your generated Registration ID. You will need the Registration ID during the installation process.
- Registering Additional Products
You can visit the Xilinx Registration and Download Site at a later time to register, download, and install additional ISE Design Suite 10.1 products. The Select Products section displays all of your entitled, evaluation, and free products. A checkmark will be in the box beside the products already registered and the box will be empty for products not registered. After you add and register your new products, a new Registration ID will be regenerated. This new Registration ID includes previously registered products plus the new products you just selected and registered. An updated registration confirmation email will be sent to you.
- Registering and Downloading Products from Previous Releases
If you have purchased products of version 9.2 or earlier, you can register and download them using this Product Registration and Download Site. To register and download the older products, perform the following steps:

Pull down the "Account" drop-down list and select your desired account. This selection will not be available if you are only entitled to evaluation or free products.
- Pull down the "Release No." drop-down list and select the desired release. Note you can only register evaluation versions of current version products.
- Click the link of the product you want to register. A page appears that gives you the option to register your product and displays the available downloads associated with the product.
- Click the "Get REG ID" button. The Registration ID appears. You will need the Registration ID during the installation process.In the "Available Downloads" section, click the link of the documentation or the single product single-file download you want.
- Repeat the above steps for each product you want to register and download.
Downloading ISE Design Suite Products
There are two methods available for downloading ISE Design Suite 10.1 products; installation using the WebInstall client and installation using single product single file download. You may also request an ISE Design Suite 10.1 DVD.
- Download Product Using the WebInstall Client (Installation over the Web)
The WebInstall client provides users an easy and optimized method for product download. After downloading and running a single ~50 Mb executable file, you are prompted to select the desired products, operating system and device families. WebInstall downloads and installs only the files necessary for the chosen design environment over the Web. If the download process is interrupted, WebInstall can reconnect and continue the installation where it was left off. The following steps describe the process for using WebInstall: -
Click the “DOWNLOAD” button to begin downloading the WebInstall Client.

After completing the download of the WebInstall Client, you will need to extract the installation files from the archive and run the setup file to begin the installer.

The Registration ID generated during the product registration process will be required for product installation.
Download Product Using Single Product Single File Download (SPSFD)

In some instances, a user or account administrator may prefer to have a copy of the product installation files on their local network. This can be achieved by downloading the product installation files for each product individually. This may be necessary for users who do not have the ability to access the internet from the network or computer they do their design work from. In order to download the installation files for the products you have registered, follow these steps:

Click the “Download Files Individually” link in the “Download Alternatives” section to the right of the WebInstall Client DOWNLOAD button. This reveals an area that allows you to download product installation files individually.

Click the "Download" link next to the product you want to download. The first time you do this you will be prompted to install the Akamai Technologies Download Manager plug in. Xilinx highly recommends the use of this download manager. It can recover from lost internet connections and continue the download from where it left off.

Enter the location where you would like to save the single product installation file.

Repeat the above steps for each product you want to download.
After completing the single product single file download, The download file archive can be extracted and the setup file can be run to being product installation. Note, you must install each product individually. Since all products were registered at once, you can use the same Registration ID during the installation process for each product.
- Ordering a DVD
The Xilinx Design Suite DVD contains the installation files for all Xilinx Design Suite products. The Registration ID you obtain from the Product Registration and Download Site will enable the installation of all ISE Design Suite products that you have purchased from the DVD. To receive an ISE Design Suite 10.1 DVD, click the "Request a DVD" link in the Download section of the Product Registration and Download Site.
Monitoring Product Usage and Administering Account Access
You must be a customer account administrator in order to monitor product usage and administer account access. If you do not see the "Accnt Admin" tab at the top of the Xilinx Registration and Download Site, you do not have these privileges.

Monitoring Product Usage: View By Products
The "View By Products" section enables you to determine which users have registered seats of software on a product-by-product basis. It displays: -
Product Entitlements - Name of the ISE Design Suite products you purchased

Used - Number of seats registered
-
Available - Number of seats available for registration

Total - Number of seats purchased
You can sort in ascending or descending order by clicking on the respective column header. An arrow shows how rows are sorted. To see who is registered for each product and the associated Registration ID, click the View End Users link below the product name.
- Monitoring Product Usage: View By Users
The "View By Users" section enables you to determine which seats of products a user has registered on a user-by-user basis. It displays: -
Name - First and last name of each user

Role - Role of the user (when the checkbox next to Admin is marked, it designates the user as an Administrator)

Email - Email address
You can sort in ascending or descending order by clicking on the respective column header. An arrow shows how rows are sorted. To see what products are registered to each user and the Registration IDs, click the “View Registered Products” link. The number of products registered to a user is displayed in parenthesis, (). If a user has not registered a product, the Name will appear as New User, Role will appear as designated, and the user’s Email address will be present, but the “View Registered Products” link will not be present.
- Adding and Removing Users
By adding a user to an account, the new user will be able to register a seat of, and have download access to any of the available products within the account. Please note that all end users must abide by the Xilinx End User License Agreement. To add users, perform the following steps:-
Click the "Add New User" link. The action area for adding a new user appears.

Enter the user’s email address.

If you want the user to have administrator privileges, select "Admin - Designate user as administrator".

If you want to add additional users, click the "Add Another User’s Email" link.

A text box for the entry of an additional new user will appear each time the link is selected.

Click "Submit".
To remove users, click the "Trash Can" icon displayed next to the user’s email address in the "Remove" column. Removing a user from your account will prohibit the user from registering additional products. Additionally, the seat of each product the user had registered will be made available for other users of the account to register. If a user is removed from an account, they must stop using the ISE Design Suite products they had registered and uninstall them from their machine.
- Modifying User Role (Assigning account administration responsibilities)

To make a user an administrator, select "Admin" in the "Role" column in the "View By Users" section.

To remove administrator privileges from a user, deselect "Admin" in the "Role" column in the "View By Users" section.

Troubleshooting Tips
- Q1 - I have purchased product(s) from Xilinx but I do not see them when I log in to the Xilinx Registration and Download Site.
If you do not see products you purchased in the "Entitled Products" section of the registration page, it is likely that you do not have the proper entitlements set up for your user account. When the order for the Xilinx Design Suite product you purchased was made, a notification was sent to the individual identified as the "Ship To" contact person on your order.

If you are this person, you should have received a Xilinx notification which contains instructions and a unique URL for providing you access to the products you have purchased. If you do not have this e-mail, check to make sure it is not in your spam folder.

If you are not the person identified as the "Ship To" contact person on your order, you will need to find this person and have them log into the site and add you as an "end user" or "customer account administrator" for your account. They will need your e-mail address in order to do this.

Q2 - Why am I getting an error message related to an "export compliance alert"?
The Xilinx Product Registration and Download Site contains important safeguards to ensure compliance with the export regulations of the United States and with Xilinx own policies regarding international distribution of software and source code. This error message is directly related to our export controls. You may receive this message for the following reasons:

The country you live in is prohibited from receiving this product.
-
The domain name your IP address resolves to, is restricted from receiving this product.
-
If any of your profile information is incomplete you will get an export violation error message.
To correct errors or omissions in your profile information, please reinitiate the sign in process for product registration. You will be prompted with an address validation screen. At this point you can correct any mistakes in your profile and continue with the product registration and download process. Additionally, a notification has been sent to a Xilinx service representative who will review the alert and if necessary, will contact you regarding your account status.

Q3 - I am having problems starting or completing a download. What can I do?
These troubles may be related to your system, your ISP and connection to the Internet, or the interaction of your system with the Xilinx Registration and Download Site. Here are some suggestions that should help:

Make sure you are using a recent browser version, preferably a 7.x or later version of Netscape, 6.x or later version of Internet Explorer, or a 1.x or later version of FireFox.

If downloading through a firewall and/or proxy server, contact your system administrator to make sure downloads are allowed through the firewall and that your system is configured properly to allow downloads. Review the parameters for file size cache as well.

Make sure you have plenty of disk space! Allow at least 2-3 times more disk space than the file size itself. (For a 200 MByte zip file, for example, you may need as much as 600 MBytes of free disk space.)

Q4 - How can I be sure my transactions are private and secure?
Xilinx values and safeguards your privacy and security. We provide 40-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect your personal information as it travels across the Internet. SSL protection is provided throughout the Xilinx Product Registration and Download Site. All modern browsers support SSL. If yours does not, we recommend upgrading to a newer version for better privacy protection.
Access to your registration information is available only when your username and password are entered correctly. For your protection, our customer service representatives are not authorized to change your information in any way. Q5 - Can I download software using FTP?
The software on the Xilinx Product Registration and Download Site is subject to strict code license and export compliance controls, thus various security systems are built into our registration and download site. This security architecture relies on the HTTP protocol for downloads, so we do not provide an FTP option.

Q6 - How can I obtain my ISE Design Suite 10.1 products on DVD?
Upon completion of the registration process, you will advance to the product download screen. To the right of the green "DOWNLOAD" button is a link labeled "Request a DVD". Clicking on this link will take you to a DVD request form. In most cases, a DVD can be mailed to you within a few days.
