SMPTE compliant SDI subsystems for use across all broadcast systems

SDI (Serial Digital Interface) is the ubiquitous connectivity standard used in all broadcast systems and some pro AV applications by transporting uncompressed media over coaxial cable. Supporting various data rates from 270Mbps to ~12Gbps, Xilinx UHD-SDI subsystems support SMPTE compliant SD/HD/3G/6G and 12G-SDI, as well as multi-link 6G/12G-SDI. With various features including audio embed/de-embed and integration with Xilinx PICXO/FRACXO for removing external VCXOs in genlocked systems, our subsystems offer flexible and scalable single-chip implementation for single and multi-channel designs, enabling you to focus on the audio and video processing differentiation in your design. And as the industry shifts to SMPTE ST 2110, Xilinx platforms offer an ideal platform to bridge between SDI and Ethernet for AV-over-IP.

Enabling HDMI connections to the latest 8K TVs and displays

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the main AV connection used in consumer electronics and is popular in professional display applications. Supporting three TMDS (Transmission-minimized Differential Signalling) channels plus clock in HDMI 2.0, or four FRL (Fixed-Rate Link) channels in HDMI 2.1, video, audio and data can be transferred at up to 12Gbps per channel.

For next generation sources and displays, Xilinx offers fully compliant pre-packaged subsystems for HDMI receive or HDMI transmit and launched the industry’s first FPGA implementation of HDMI 2.1. These subsystems integrate an HDMI controller with video timing generation, AXI bridges and optional HDCP content protection (available to listed HDCP adopters). DSC (Display Stream Compression) is also available from our partner Hardent. This means that you can easily integrate single or multichannel HDMI into single-chip designs, reducing BOM costs and letting you focus on the differentiating portions of your design and get you to market faster.

Ready-made DisplayPort subsystems to accelerate product development

DisplayPort® is a high-speed serial interface standard used in consumer electronics, PC laptops and monitors. Supporting up to 8.1Gbps per lane, DisplayPort offers features such as MST (multi-stream transport) for daisy-chaining displays together, and automatic lane rate and width negotiation.

Xilinx DisplayPort solutions include transmit and receive subsystems for versions 1.4 (supporting up to 8K) and 1.2 (up to 4K). Integrated with video timing, AXI interfacing and optional HDCP content protection (available to listed HDCP adopters), and with DSC (Display Stream Compression) is also available from our partner Hardent, the subsystems are compliant to VESA DisplayPort specifications and enable highly-integrated, scalable AV pipelines.

Supporting high-performance, low power imaging interfaces

Whether in professional cameras and camcorders, collaboration conferencing, or to add ML-based cameras in signage, modern camera systems require high resolution, high frame rates, and increasing pixel depth, presenting significant data rate and memory bandwidth challenges. To support this, the MIPI® (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) standard defines the physical (PHY) layer specifications D-PHY®, and C-PHY® for cameras and displays.

Xilinx offers both cost-optimized and high-performance MIPI-based solutions for camera sensor capture and display, supporting D-PHY, CSI-2, and DSI protocols. Additionally, Xilinx offers Image Signal Processing IP required by many image sensor applications for color conversion, correction, balancing, and more. Xilinx devices support multiple MIPI configurations, from single to multiple links, different data rates, and data types, and can mix receive and transmit data paths on a single device. Every design has unique requirements and the flexibility of Xilinx devices enables developers to meet those needs as well as differentiate their solutions.

AES3, S/PDIF & I2S AUDIO

Easy-to-integrate cores to handle audio streams at both board and chip level

The Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format (SPDIF) and Audio Engineering Society (AES3) are digital audio interfaces that implements the IEC 60958 interface for transmitting and receiving audio data. The Inter-IC-Sound (I2S) interface is used to connect audio devices for transmitting and receiving PCM audio, typically between devices such as transmitting to audio DACs. These audio interfaces are simple but critical parts of an audio processing pipeline and Xilinx provides IP and frameworks to manage these effectively, particularly in high-density multichannel audio systems.  Audio channels can also be received as embedded signals in media streams such as HDMI, DisplayPort and SDI, and Xilinx platforms are ideal for de-embedding, DSP processing and re-embedding, all using ALSA drivers and framers, or moving directly to/from AES3 or S/PDIF interfaces.
