New application architectures server virtualization and storage consolidation have transformed the data center. High-performance Port Extender reduces Data Center CapEx and OpEx rack by rack
The Xilinx Smarter Networks port extender (PEX) solution for data-center rack switching extends the reach of the existing sever networking devices by moving the switching function to underutilized core switches, which replaces the redundant TOR (top-of-rack) switches with a much simpler device: the PEX.
The Xilinx PEX solution can be configured to meet specific Data Center requirements because it is based on Generation-Ahead All Programmable technology; The Xilinx PEX Ethernet ports can be configured as 48 1GE, + (4) 10GE, or (48) 10GE + (4) 40GE.

The highly flexible Xilinx Port Extension solution allows for the removal of switches from the network resulting in significantly fewer acquired and managed switches. In addition, port extension extends the reach of the more capable higher layer switches to the edge of the network. This results in superior use of the capabilities and assets within the data center.
