Alveo U30 Data Center Accelerator Card

Overview

Product Description

The Alveo U30 media accelerator card provides the industry’s highest channel density, lowest cost per channel, and lowest power consumption for live video streaming workloads. When coupled with Video Software Developers Kit (SDK) from AMD the solution provides a production-ready platform for live streaming providers to benefit from AMD hardware acceleration with standards-based FFmpeg, GStreamer and APIs.

The U30 is available for live video transcoding in the cloud over Amazon EC2 VT1 instances or as a preconfigured appliance for on-premises deployment from our partners.

Features

  • Small footprint – half-height, half-length
  • Low power ~18-25W typical
  • High density media processing: 112 x 1080p30 transcodes in real-time on a single appliance populated with 7 x Alveo U30 accelerators
  • HEVC (H.265), H.264 (AVC) & Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) Scaling
  • Supports video resolutions from 128x128 to 3840x2160
  • Simultaneous decoding, scaling and encoding of up to 46 streams with max aggregated bandwidth of 2X4Kp60 per card
  • Faster-than-Real-Time (FTRT) feature enables a 60 minute 1080p60 quality video to be transcoded in 20 minutes on a single U30 accelerator
  • Xilinx Resource Manager (XRM) enables multiple video processing jobs to run across multiple Alveo U30 cards for seamless workload scaling Seamless FFmpeg, GStreamer and API integration

Notes

  1. The Alveo U30 Media Accelerator Card is designed for use in AMD real-time evaluation servers or turn-key high-density video transcoding appliances offered by AMD VARs.
  2. Logic resources shown are without platform usage. User does not have access to these resources on the Alveo U30 card.
  3. Servers need to support bifurcation for users to take advantage of both Zynq™ UltraScale+™ devices on the Alveo U30 card.
  4. The Alveo U30 media accelerator card is designed for 25W TDP. Please refer to DS970 for details.

Software Developers Kit

AMD Video Software Developers Kit (SDK)

Accelerate your streaming workflows with our turnkey software developers kit (SDK).  Access the tools, APIs, and high-level FFmpeg frameworks, GStreamer, or your own proprietary framework via C/C++ APIs and get up and running in just one day.

The U30 Video SDK is a complete software stack allowing users to seamlessly leverage the hardware accelerated features of Alveo U30 cards for on-premises or cloud deployments. It includes the following elements:

  • Pre-compiled versions of FFmpeg and GStreamer which integrates key video transcoding plug-ins, enabling simple hardware offloading of compute-intensive workloads using the FFmpeg and the GStreamer command line interfaces respectively.
  • Xilinx Media Accelerator (XMA) library: a host interface meant to simplify the development of applications that manage and control video accelerators, such as decoders, scalers, filters, and encoders. It integrates the Alveo U30 transcoding capabilities into the FFmpeg  framework.
  • Xilinx Resource Manager (XRM): manages and allocates all the hardware accelerated  features.  XRM  enables  multiple video processing jobs to run across multiple Alveo U30 cards for seamless workload scaling.
  • Xilinx Runtime library (XRT): manages communication between the application code and the accelerated-kernels deployed on the AMD Alveo accelerator card.
  • A suite of card management tools (XCLBIN) perform actions such  as programming, resetting, or querying the status of U30 cards.
