4.1i Virtex-II PAR - Placer crashes with the internal error: "Place:basplprcntl.c:2539:1.40 - Cannot place component..."

Keywords: Place:basplprcntl.c:2539:1.40, place, placer, crash, LOC, carry, chain, 3.1i

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When a LOC constraint is applied to the last slice in a carry chain such that there is not enough room to place the carry chain underneath, the carry chain is made un-placeable, and a placer crash occurs.

In 3.1i, PAR crashes at the beginning of placement right after the initial timing analysis. In 4.1i, the crash occurs, but several error message similar to the following are printed first:

INTERNAL_ERROR:Place:basplprcntl.c:2539:1.40 - Cannot place component i_icpt_nlc/i_dummy_or/i_AND/if_lg_if_lg.gen.gen.1_i_MUXCY_L/O

To avoid this error and crash, remove any LOC constraints that conflict with carry chain placement.

This problem will be fixed in the next major software release after 4.1i.
