Virtex-II - Why do the VRN, VRP, and Vref pins say input for direction when they can be used as dual function?

Description

VRN, VRP, and Vref are listed as dual-function pins in the Virtex/-E/-II pinout tables, but their direction is listed as input only under their individual pin descriptions.

Solution

The Virtex/-E/II, the VRN, VRP, and Vref pins can be used as standard I/O if they are not needed for the output standard chosen. The reason the individual pin descriptions say input only is that when these pins are used as VRN, VRP, or Vref for a particular I/O standard, they are input only.
