4.2i IMPACT, 18V00 - The CF pin does not pulse low when the "Load FPGA" command is issued through iMPACT

Description

Keywords: iMPACT, 18V00, LoadFPGA, CF, pulse, low

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
The CF pin does not pulse low on an 18V00 device when the "Load FPGA" command is issued.

Solution

This problem has been fixed for the smaller 20-pin packages. It is also fixed for the larger 44-pin packages (unless the "Use D4 for CF" option is enabled).

This problem is fixed in the latest 4.2i Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates
The first service pack containing the fix is 4.2i Service Pack 2.

For 44-pin packages:

If the "Load FPGA" option "use D4 for CF" was used when the smaller 20-pin packages were programmed, the option was stored in a profile. If you then try to use a larger 44-pin package, the "use D4 for CF" will no longer be a selectable option. However, it remains set in the profile so it appears that the "Load FPGA" instruction is not functioning.

To disable this option (which is also possible in SVF mode):

1. Create and load a small MCS file (small enough to fit into an 18V01).
2. Select the XC18V01_SO20 package.
3. Perform a program operation. Be sure to de-select the "Load FPGA" and "Use D4 for CF" options.
4. Close the file and exit iMPACT.

This will reset the "Use D4 for CF" option in the iMPACT profile.

The "Use D4 for CF" should be disabled; start iMPACT again, and perform the usual operations.
