*Obsolete* 4.1is3 iMPACT - A non-Xilinx BSDL file generates "EXCEPTION:iMPACT:BsdlStorage.c:686: - Out of range..."

Keywords: iMPACT, BSDL, non-Xilinx, FATAL_ERROR, BsdlStorage, EXCEPTION

Urgency: Hot

General Description:
When I add certain non-Xilinx device BSDL files to a JTAG Chain, iMPACT reports the following errors:

"EXCEPTION:iMPACT:BsdlStorage.c:686: - Out of range."

"FATAL_ERROR:GuiUtilities:WinApp.c:560:$Revsion - This application has discovered an exceptional condition from which it cannot recover.Process will terminate. To resolve this error, please consult the Answers Database and other
online resources at"

This problem will be fixed in the next major software release.

To work around this issue, do not specify a BSDL or bit file for the device; instead, specify an arbitrary device name and the instruction register (IR) length.

The IR length can be found on the following line in the non-Xilinx BSDL file:

attribute INSTRUCTION_LENGTH of [device name] : entity is [length];
