4.2i iMPACT - "ERROR: iMPACT:650 - syntax error at line xxx token File"

Description

Keywords: iMPACT, CDF, load, file, error, syntax, BsdlStorage, 650, 531

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
The following errors occur when I load a CDF file in the iMPACT 4.2i software:

"ERROR: iMPACT:650 - syntax error at line 9 token File"
"EXCEPTION: iMPACT:BsdlStorage.c:301:1.14.4.6 - File does not exist."
"ERROR: iMPACT:531 - deviceManagerProxy->addDevice() failed!"

Solution

1

The problem is due to an error that occurs when the configuration file name specified in the CDF file is read.

To work around this, manually edit the CDF file in a text editor so that it points to the correct configuration file. The original device specification in the CDF file will contain both a "PartName" line and a "File" line similar to the following:

P ActionCode(Cfg)
Device
PartName(xc9572xl)
File("-- File ? --")
;

Modify the "File" line to point to the configuration file (e.g., .bit, .jed, or .mcs) or BSDL file:

P ActionCode(Cfg)
Device
PartName(xc9572xl)
File("C:\Xilinx\xc9500xl\data\xc9572xl.bsd")
;

This was fixed in the 5.1i software release.

2

This error will also occur if the bit file name begins with an "&" character.

To solve the problem, remove the "&" from the bit file name, and modify the file line in the CDF file to reflect the bit file's new name.

For example:

P ActionCode(Cfg)
Device
PartName(xc2s100)
File("C:\project\&design.bit")
;

Should be changed to:

P ActionCode(Cfg)
Device
PartName(xc2s100)
File("C:\project\design.bit")
;
