4.2i iMPACT - I am unable to program an XC9500 5V device

Description

Keyword: 4.1i, 4.2i, iMPACT, 9500, program, unable

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I program a 9500 device in iMPACT, the process fails to complete. (I am able to program other devices.)

Solution

The problem is with the number of attempts iMPACT makes when trying to program a 9500 cell. The normal operation of 9500 devices may require multiple attempts to program a particular cell; the current version of IMPACT only attempts to program a cell in the device twice before it goes to the next cell.

This issue may be accompanied by the error message noted in (Xilinx Answer 14009).

This problem was fixed in 4.2i Service Pack 2, which is available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates.

To work around this issue, you may also download the JTAG Programmer from WebPACK version 3.3 08i. (Please see (Xilinx Answer 12740) for information on obtaining JTAG Programmer.)

NOTE: Some older 9500 devices cannot be programmed with iMPACT -- specifically, any 9500 devices with a silicon version of 0000, 0001, or 0010. These devices will appear as "9500_unsupported" in iMPACT. Please see (Xilinx Answer 12737) for more information on unsupported 9500 devices.
