5.1i ECS - ECS reports errors: "<file name>, Line ###: Error: Point not on Secondary Grid : (258, 192)"

Description

Keywords: ECS, point, grid, secondary, .sch, schematic, SCH2VHDL, SCH2VER, sym, symbol

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I open a schematic, ECS reports an error similar to:

"my_design.sch, Line 660: Error: Point not on Secondary Grid : (258, 192)"
"my_macro.sym, Line 31: Error: Point not on Secondary Grid : (238, 192)"

How do I make this schematic work?

Solution

In order for a point to be on the secondary grid, each coordinate must be a multiple of 4.

To fix this problem:

1. Open the schematic (.sch) or symbol (.sym) file in a text editor. The code will look similar to:

BEGIN LINE W 258 192 290 192 (Line 660)

2. Change this grid value to one that will fit in the grid. (Choose the nearest multiple of 4.)

For example, change the above line to:

BEGIN LINE W 260 192 292 192

You must change each line that is reported in an error.

Then, save the .sch or .sym file and open the schematic, which will now work successfully.
