AR# 14547: 4.2i Install -- HP: Any applications using Tcl or Tk applications do not work
4.2i Install -- HP: Any applications using Tcl or Tk applications do not work
Keywords: HP, install, XKEYSMDB, Tcl, Tk
General Description: After I install the 4.2i CD on an HP machine, applications that use Tcl or Tk no longer work. Un-setting the XKEYSYMDB environment variable allows these applications to work again. Will un-setting this environment variable cause other issues?
The setup scripts "settings.csh" and "settings.sh" for 4.2i set the XKEYSMDB environment variable. This variable can conflict with some applications such as Tcl and Tk.
This environment variable is used to ensure that Xilinx tools are compatible with X-Windows applications on different UNIX operating systems. It involves keyboard symbolic mapping, and will not affect the operation of Xilinx implementation tools.
On newer UNIX operating systems, this environment variable may not be necessary. Try un-setting this environment variable and check your keyboard operation. If software warnings are not reported for the control keys (e.g., CNTL, BS, DEL, etc.), you may safely use the Xilinx tools without this environment variable being set.
