5.1i PACE - When I use PACE to place BRAM constraints, MAP reports "ERROR:MapHelpers:151 - Error while processing the area group range..."

Description

Keywords: PACE, MAP, BRAM, RAM, block, area group, constraints, Virtex-II Pro

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I create a area group constraints for my RPM group that contains block RAM, MAP reports the following error messages:

"ERROR:MapHelpers:151 - Error while processing the area group range. Unable to create a LOC object using the constraint RAMB16_X2Y13:RAMB16_X7Y9,RAMB16_X3Y6:RAMB16_X4Y0 attached to area group AG_ip_wrapper. One or more ranges contain syntax error or illegal site. Please modify the constraint."

"ERROR:MapHelpers:151 - Error while processing the area group range. Unable to create a LOC object using the constraint RAMB16_X1Y1:RAMB16_X1Y0 attached to area group AG_Tracking_Module. One or more ranges contain syntax error or illegal site. Please modify the constraint."

"ERROR:Map:51 - Problem encountered processing CONFIG props."

Solution

These problems occur because area group constraints created by PACE for block RAM have covered illegal sites. Block RAM sites above the Gigabit Transfer I/Os are not valid. This is visible when the cursor is moved to the site; however, users can still create an area constraint for this site, which causes the MAP errors above.

To avoid this situation, you can either use PACE to reduce the area group constraint so that it does not cover these Block RAM sites, or manually modify the UCF file.
