5.1i Floorplanner - My design hierarchy is corrupted after UCF (Area Group) constraints are read in

Description

Keywords: Floorplanner, design hierarchy, corrupt, UCF, area group, read constraint

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
After Floorplanner reads in a UCF file created by PACE or a previous Floorplanner version, my design hierarchy window view becomes corrupted.

Solution

This problem is fixed in the latest 5.1i Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates
The first service pack containing the fix is 5.1i Service Pack 2.

Area group constraints created with previous Floorplanner versions may contain an "AG" prefix prior to the instance name.

For example:
AREA_GROUP "AG_EX_MEM" RANGE = SLICE_X41Y111:SLICE_X54Y96 ;
AREA_GROUP "AG_EX_MEM" RANGE = TBUF_X42Y111:TBUF_X54Y96 ;
AREA_GROUP "AG_EX_MEM" RANGE = RAMB16_X1Y13:RAMB16_X2Y12 ;
AREA_GROUP "AG_EX_MEM" RANGE = MULT18X18_X1Y13:MULT18X18_X2Y12 ;
INST EX_MEM AREA_GROUP = AG_EX_MEM ;

When 5.1i Floorplanner reads in such constraints, the hierarchy window will become corrupted and introduce another level of hierarchy. To work around this problem, simply remove the "AG_" prefix for the area group constraints and reload Floorplanner.

For example:
AREA_GROUP "EX_MEM" RANGE = SLICE_X41Y111:SLICE_X54Y96 ;
AREA_GROUP "EX_MEM" RANGE = TBUF_X42Y111:TBUF_X54Y96 ;
AREA_GROUP "EX_MEM" RANGE = RAMB16_X1Y13:RAMB16_X2Y12 ;
AREA_GROUP "EX_MEM" RANGE = MULT18X18_X1Y13:MULT18X18_X2Y12 ;
INST EX_MEM AREA_GROUP = EX_MEM ;
