Packaging - What packages have Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) numbers? The PD8 (and other Pin-Through-Hole packages) do not have MSL numbers, why not?

Description

General Description:

What packages have Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) numbers? Also, why does the PD8 package not have a MSL classification?

Solution

Only SMT packages such as BGAs, QFPs, etc. are classified according to their MSL level.

Non-SMT packages such as the PD8 package do not get exposed to high reflow temperatures. Since only the leads are heated during the soldering process, package delamination due to the reflow process is not a concern.
