5.1i ISE - An ABEL simulation with test vectors fails to load an AIM library in the functional "do" file, causing "Error: (vsim-3033)"

Description

Keywords: 3033, VSim, MTI, ModelSim, ABEL , abl, test, vector, simulate, behavioral, Verilog, Model

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I launch the "Simulate Behavioral Verilog Model" process for an ABEL test vector, the "do" file generated does not include the "-L aim_ver" switch. This causes ModelSim errors similar to the following:

"# ** Error: (vsim-3033) my_test.blc(74): Instantiation of 'G_DEC' failed. The design unit was not found."

Solution

This problem is fixed in the latest 5.1i Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates
The first service pack containing the fix is 5.1i Service Pack 2.

Another way to work around this problem is to edit the <design name>.fda file and add "-L aim_ver" to the "vsim" line. Save the .fda file and rerun the "Simulate Behavioral Verilog Model" process.

For example:

Change:
vsim -t 1ps -L uni9000 -L unisims_ver -L simprims_ver -lib work $desunit glbl

to:
vsim -t 1ps -L aim_ver -L uni9000 -L unisims_ver -L simprims_ver -lib work $desunit glbl
