3.1 EDK - I updated my MDK system using the "revup" utility, and a POSITION attribute now appears. What is this attribute?

Description

Keywords: POSITION, EDK, MHS, revup

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When I update a MicroBlaze Design Kit .mhs file using the "revup utility", a POSITION attribute is added to the BUS_INTERFACE setting. What does this attribute do? Is it necessary?

Solution

The POSITION attribute is intended for multiple-master buses, and is used to set priority among those masters. (More information is available in the EST Guide, under the "Local Bus Interface Command" heading.) For a system in which multiple masters are not used on a single bus, this attribute may be safely ignored or removed.

This problem is fixed in the latest 3.1 EDK Service Pack, available at:
http://www.xilinx.com/ise/embedded/edk.htm.
The first service pack containing the fix is EDK 3.1 Service Pack 2.
