5.1i IP1 CORE Generator - After I install the IP Update for ISE 5.1i, how do I regenerate a new version of an older core?

General Description:
I have installed the IP Update for ISE 5.1i, and I can see that the update was successful because the core versions were changed. However, when I attempt to regenerate a core, the old version is still generated.


The only way to generate a newer version of a core is to manually create a new core using the latest software version. There is no automated way to update a previously-generated core. If you regenerate a core, the core is simply generated with the current version and options.

Cores must be regenerated in this manner because newer versions of the cores often contain new features and options that are not included in older versions. If you were to regenerate and automatically use the newer version of the core, CORE Generator would have to make assumptions as to the desired settings for the new options. Therefore, in order to avoid this type of problem, you must generate a new core and manually update it to ensure that the options are set exactly as you desire.

To do this:

1. Within Project Navigator, add a New Source.
2. Select the CORE Generator IP and continue the source creation until COREGen launches.
3. In COREGen, select the desired core, specify the settings and options, and select "Generate".
4. Close CCOREGen and return to Project Navigator.
5. Replace the old core instantiation with the new core, using the New Instantiation template.
