5.2i Floorplanner - MAP does not report range for certain area groups in the MAP report

Description

Keywords: Floorplanner, area group, range, report, corrupt, UCF, MAP, miss

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
After I modify the area group range using Floorplanner, the UCF file is corrupted and MAP does not report the range for the modified area groups.

Example of Corrupted Area Group Constraint
==========================================
INST "ag1" AREA_GROUP = "ag1" ;
INST "ag1" AREA_GROUP = "AG_ag1" ;
AREA_GROUP "AG_ag1" RANGE = SLICE_X97Y126:SLICE_X102Y117 ;

Example of MAP Report
================================================
Section 9 - Area Group Summary
------------------------------
AREA_GROUP ag1
No RANGE specified for AREA_GROUP ag1
No COMPRESSION specified for AREA_GROUP ag1
AREA GROUP Logic Utilization:
Number of Slice Flip Flops: 913 out of 0 0%
Logic Distribution:
Number of occupied Slices: 708 out of 0 0%
Number of Slices containing only related logic: 708 out of 708 100%
Total Number 4 input LUTs: 1,337 out of 0 0%
Number used as logic: 1,337

Solution

To fix this problem, manually remove the additional constraint line written by Floorplanner.

Example
====================================
#INST "ag1" AREA_GROUP = "ag1" ;
INST "ag1" AREA_GROUP = "AG_ag1" ;
AREA_GROUP "AG_ag1" RANGE = SLICE_X97Y126:SLICE_X102Y117 ;
====================================

To avoid this issue, use PACE for area group assignment if possible.

This problem is fixed in the latest 5.2i Service Pack, available at:

The first service pack containing the fix is 5.2i Service Pack 2.
