Install - During an installation, my Windows XP system reports "Error: This directory does not have write permission"

Description

During a CD installation, my Windows XP system reports the following error:

Error: This directory does not have write permission".

However, when I check my directory, Read/Write permissions are enabled.

Solution

Solution 1

Windows XP allows you to customize your directories with special icons.

If you do this, Windows XP assigns a "Read-Only" attribute to the directory, even though the directory itself still has "Read/Write" permissions.

If you remove the custom directory icon, you will be able to proceed with the installation.

Solution 2

Copy all files and folders from the DVD to a temporary directory.

Make sure hidden files are copied as well.

To see hidden files, select Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Show Hidden Files and Folders.

After copying all files, change the permission on the temporary directory to not be "read only" by right-clicking on the temporary directory, selecting properties, and unchecking read-only.

Apply all changes to sub-folders as well.

Launch the xsetup executable from the temporary directory.
