6.1i XST - "WARNING:NgdBuild:483 - Attribute 'INIT' on 'signal_name' is on the wrong object"

General Description:

XST inserts INIT constraints on signals in my design. The following message is reported:

"WARNING:NgdBuild:483 - Attribute 'INIT' on 'signal_name' is on the wrong object."

Why does this happen?

When XST compiles a finite state machine, the state register values (assigned by the INIT constraint) are placed on the registers as well as (erroneously) on the signals. This does not affect the design, but rather produces a number of NGDBuild warnings that can be safely ignored.

This problem has been fixed in the latest 6.1i Service Pack, available at:

The first service pack containing the fix is 6.1i Service Pack 1.
