LogiCORE IP - Debugging license installation problems for licensed LogiCORE IP in EDK and COREGen

Keywords: COREGen, EDK, IP, debug, license, LogiCORE

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
I am having problems debugging license installation problems for licensed IP. How do I debug problems with installing licenses for LogiCOREs that require an additional license?

Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. It is critical that you correctly enter the value of the hostid (or MAC address) and install the license to the proper location.

If you are running EDK, refer to the IP Licensing Help page at:

For PCs, directly copy the MAC address for your machine from your DOS box when you run the "ipconfig" command to ensure that you do not make a mistake entering this value:
1. Start up a DOS box/command window.
2. Run the ipconfig command.
3. Using the mouse, select the MAC address value obtained from running ipconfig in the DOS box.
4. Right-click the DOS box toolbar and select Edit -> Copy from the drop-down menu.
5. Use the address that you capture in this manner to request another license to eliminate the possibility that the MAC address was specified incorrectly in the license that is not working.

Make sure that you have requested the license for the correct product (e.g., the standalone Ethernet 1000BASE-X PCS/PMA core vs. the Gigabit Ethernet MAC core, which might be configured with a 1000BASE-X PCS/PMA).

If you are running EDK, check the status of all installed licenses by running the following command:

xlicmgr status

You should see output similar to the following:

Core Name: gig_eth_mac_v3_0
Status: Valid
Type: Bought
Path: C:\.Xilinx\Coregen\CoreLicenses\gig_eth_mac_v3_0.lic

If you purchased the core, the license type displayed should be "Bought".
If you have only an evaluation license, the license type displayed should be "Evaluation".
If you have not installed any IP license, the license type displayed should be "Simulation".

Any default license that comes with the core is placed in the following directory:

These include simulation-only licenses. A hardware timeout license or a purchased license will be placed in the following directory:
