6.1i ISE - "This project was last saved with the default property "Simulator" set to an invalid value of 'ModelSim'..."

Keywords: project, saved, default, simulator, invalid, value, property, modelsim, example

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
Upon opening a project in Project Navigator, the following message appears.

"This project was last saved with the default property "Simulator" set to an invalid value of 'ModelSim'. The project will be opened with a default value for this property."

This warning occurs if the project being opened was last saved with the Simulator value set to ModelSim (as is the case with all of the ISE example projects) and there was no ModelSim executable path found by Project Navigator or the path is invalid.

To avoid this error, follow these steps:

A. If ModelSim is available on the system and desired for simulation from within Project Navigator:
1. Go to the Edit Menu, select Preferences.
2. Go to the Integrated Tools Tab.
3. Hit the "default" button next to the ModelTech Simulator field.
4. If the correct "modelsim.exe" path does not show, press the browse button and find the "modelsim.exe", and press Open.

B. If ModelSim is not available on the system:
1. Right-click the project device family in the sources window and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
2. Change the Simulator property from 'Modelsim' to 'Other'.
- This will prevent Project Navigator from checking the validity of the ModelSim executable path.
