General Description:
Many Xilinx device families are supersets of another Xilinx family, and can often use the bitstream of the subset family for configuration. However, in most cases, the subset family cannot use the bitstream of the superset family.

Additionally, bitstream compatibility does not imply that the design will work in the superset device. Xilinx recommends that you re-run timing simulations for the superset device to guarantee functionality.

The XC3000A is a superset of the XC3000 family. Therefore, any bitstream used to configure an XC3000, XC3100, XC3000L, XC3100L or XC3100A device configures an XC3000A device the same way.

The XC3000L is also a superset of the XC3000 family. Therefore, any bitstream used to configure an XC3000, XC3100, XC3100L, XC3000A, or XC3100A device configures an XC3000L device in the same way.

Bitstream compatibility is as follows:

- A 3000 bitstream may be downloaded to 3000A
- A 3000 bitstream may be downloaded to 3100
- A 3000 bitstream may be downloaded to 3100A
- A 3100 bitstream may be downloaded to 3100A
- A 3000A bitstream may be downloaded to 3100A
