6.1.2 EDK - LibGen - "xparameters.h" does not reflect the addition of a peripheral to my embedded system

Keywords: xparameters, xparameters.h, LibGen, peripheral, 6.1, XPS, MHS, MSS, undeclared, gcc, function, use, make, error 1

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
After taking a working EDK PPC system and adding to it an additional peripheral to the OPB bus, the MHS file and MSS file are updated accordingly. However, the "xparameters.h" file is not updated by LibGen. There is nothing in the "xparameters.h" file to reflect the peripheral added to OPB bus.

Consequently, the following error is issued during program compilation:

"code/system.c: In function `main':
code/system.c:59: `XPAR_SDRAM1_BASEADDR' undeclared (first use in this function)
code/system.c:59: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
code/system.c:59: for each function it appears in.)
make: *** [ppc405_i/code/executable.elf] Error 1

The peripheral address range is defined by the C_BASEADDR, and C_HIGHADDR parameters in the MHS file. Likewise, the plb2opb bridge address range is defined by the C_RNG0_BASEADDR and C_RNG0_HIGHADDR parameters in the MHS file. If the peripheral (on the OPB bus) address range is not encompassed by the plb2opb bridge address range, this means this peripheral is not addressable by the microprocessor. As such, LibGen will not update the "xparameters.h" file for the peripheral. To ensure that the "xparameters.h" file is properly updated, be certain that the peripheral's address range is contained within the address range of the plb2opb bridge.

Alternatively, while LibGen is running, check for an INFO message to ensure your peripheral is addressable by the PPC. The INFO message found in the XPS output console window will resemble the following:

INFO:MDT - List of peripherals addressable from processor instance PPC405_i :
- mygpio
- myuart
- myemc
- myether
- myplbbram_cntlr
- mysdram
