6.2i/6.1i/5.2i/5.1i Compxlib - Error:"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." when compiling the XilinxCoreLib libraries.

Description

Keywords: 6.1i, 5.2i, 5.1i, COMPXLIB, CORE Generator, COREGen, XilinxCoreLib, directory, incorrect

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
When trying to compile the XilinxCoreLib libraries, the following error is printed many times to the console:

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

The other libraries may be compiled correctly and the message is reported that the compilation was successful. However the libraries do not appear in the XilinxCoreLib folder.

Solution

This problem is due to the fact the simulator is installed in a directory that has spaces in it (for example, "C:\Program Files\ldv51\"). Xilinx software does not support spaces in the installation path, and since compxlib needs to see the executables from the simulator, it will not see the executables and error out.

The problem can be fixed by ensuring that the Simulator is not installed in a directory with spaces.

This issue will be fixed in ISE7.1i, as the ISE tools will be able to support spaces.
