9.1i EDK - TestApp_Memory sample design does not pass on the ML501 board

Description

The TestApp_Memory design fails for the 16- and 8-bit tests. What could be wrong?

"-- Entering main() --

Starting MemoryTest for DDR2_SDRAM_32Mx32:

Running 32-bit test...PASSED!

Running 16-bit test...FAILED!

Running 8-bit test...FAILED!

-- Exiting main() --"

Solution

This problem occurs when the caches are turned off. The root of the problem is an improper Xilinx Board Definition (XBD) file. A corrected version of the XBD file can be downloaded here:

http://www.xilinx.com/txpatches/pub/swhelp/ise9_updates/xilinx_ml501_v2_2_0.zip

Extract the file into the <EDK> directory replacing the old Xilinx_ML501_v2_2_0.xbd file.

This problem has been fixed in the latest EDK 9.1i Service Pack, available at:

http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_sw_updates_home.jsp
The first service pack containing the fix is EDK 9.1i Service Pack 2.
