Is it possible to read back the User Code of a CPLD or a PROM if the device has been programmed in Read Protect mode in JTAG?

Solution

Yes, it is possible to read back the Usercode in both CPLD and PROM even if the device has been programmed in Read Protect mode.
For CoolRunner (XPLA3), the UES is stored in a Usercode register.
The UES can be readback if the XPLA CPLD is programmed in Read Protect mode.
See (Xilinx Answer 23890) for details.
